Zombie Cookie Cutter Fudge

Today we're back in the kitchen for Crafty Thursday, making it more Baking Thursday for Killer Zombie Fudge. This is pretty easy to do. The secret is the Undead Fred Zombie Cookie Cutters below. 

Here's what you'll need besides the cookie cutters (you can use any fudge recipe you'd like):

• 3 cups sugar
• 3/4 cup butter or margarine
• 1 small can (5 oz.) evaporated milk (about 2/3 cup) )
• 1 12 oz package of chocolate chips
• 1 jar (7 oz.)  Marshmallow Creme
• 1 tsp. vanilla
  
• Blue sprinkles
• Wax paper and a plate
• Saucepan
• Scotch tape
• Glass pan for excess fudge

Step One:

Put a sheet of wax paper over your plate. Place your cookie cutters on the wax paper and tape them in place (tape should be on the outside of the cookie cutter because the fudge is going inside.

Step Two:

Make the fudge. Pour evaporated milk, sugar and butter into the sauce pans and bring to a rolling boil. Stirring constantly let it boil for about 4 minutes. Remove from heat, add marshmallow cream stirring constantly to mix and then quickly add the chocolate chips. Once the mixture is well blended, add the vanilla. Let cool for about a minute.

Step Three:

Slowly pour the finished fudge into the cookie cutter shapes. Because they're zombies, I think it looks better if they are a little messy. This fudge recipe will make more fudge than you have cookie cutters in this set, so grease a glass pan and pour the rest in for later.

Step Four:

Add blue sprinkles to the top to make your zombies festive.

Step Five:

Let your zombie fudge cool, then enjoy! You can do this with any cookie cutters you like, but zombies are more fun. 

If you need your fudge to set fast - put it in the fridge. Otherwise you can leave it out to set.

Could You Survive the Zombie Apocalypse?

Even the CDC knows it’s coming...

Could you survive the Zombie Apocalypse?  It’s a tough question, but one all of us should be prepared to answer, and there is no time like the present.  

There are several tools available—ranging from Internet quizzes to survival guides—that can help you assess your zombie knowledge and preparedness level. The important thing to remember is that if your dear friend or family member has already become a zombie, they are lost and you must take steps to defend yourself.

Let’s get started with this not so helpful instructional video that suggests zombies can be our friends. This type of thinking can be dangerous.

The fatal fallacy in the “zombies can be your friends” theory can be seen in this quote from the video: “The typical zombie only thinks about brain eating fifty-two percent of the time.” This statistic is supposed to reassure us, but I value my brain. Fifty-two percent is fifty-two percent too much, in my opinion.

Knowing your enemy can be the difference between life and death. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (yes, the CDC) has developed a document called, “Preparedness 101: Zombie Pandemic” which follows a family—Todd, Julie and their dog, Max—as a disease begins turning people into zombies. (Of course, the guide also gives practical information that could be used in the event of non-zombie pandemic.) The CDC even has a blog outlining pre-zombie apocalypse preparation and offers downloadable Zombie preparedness posters. Although, if a zombie attacks you, I don’t think a poster will help much, even if you roll it up.

The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks promises “Complete Protection from the Living Dead.” It helps you understand the nature of the zombie virus, along with weapons and combat techniques that will help you defend your life and your home. Deploying these techniques can ensure a much higher human to zombie ratio after the battle begins.

Once you’ve finished digesting all of this information, then and only then will you be ready to test your overall knowledge. You can take the quiz from the Science Channel to see how much life saving information you’ve retained. (Make sure you know the main ingredient for Haitian voodoo powder. It may also help to watch the Wes Craven movie, The Serpent and the Rainbow,before you begin.)

This video suggests one way to pre-empt a zombie attack, although I wouldn’t try it at home.

Not convinced that a zombie apocalypse is even possible? Cracked.com goes through the logic in 5 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Apocalypse Could Actually Happen. This article goes in-depth not only on how certain poisons can turn people into zombies but also outlines brain experiments going on around the world. You may find their discoveries surprising.

And that, my friends, is my compilation of zombie apocalypse preparation resources. But one can never be too ready; please share your favorite zombie survival tips below.

Zombie Hunting Permit Renewal Time

It's time to renew your zombie hunting permits for 2013. Although, we all know if there is really a zombie apocalypse permits won't be required. Happy Hunting! 

Zombies and Bacon

This delicious canned bacon has a shelf life of ten years...yummo. 

I guess it never occurred to me that zombies and bacon go together although it makes sense that zombies would enjoy eating bacon, because everyone does.  The site "Think Geek" has combined their bacon and zombie offerings here. You can get your bacon salt and your bacon flavored popcorn while you are getting your pocket chain saw and your zombie magnetic poetry kit. Although I don't see the poetry kit helping you much in the event of a zombie apocalypse.

The bacon scented hand-sanitizer also seems like a big tactical error and evidentially, I'm not the only one who thinks so because it is marked down. You should try not to smell like food, or brains, if the zombies are coming for you. Just a thought.

Are You Ready for the Zombie Apocalypse?

Preparing for a potential zombie apocalypse is becoming a national past time. The CDC has even issued preparedness materials - called, "Preparedness 101: Zombie Pandemic" and you can see those here, although these same materials could be used to prepare for a flu pandemic.
