Lemonade Mojitos with Mrs. Frugalicious and Linda Joffe Hull

Linda Joffe Hull is here for Drinks with Reads matching her Mrs. Frugalicious Shopping mysteries with the perfect drink. I can't wait to see what Mrs. Frugalicious has made for us.

Maddie Michaels, AKA Mrs. Frugalicious, transforms from a well-heeled housewife into a bargain blogger extraordinaire after her husband, TV financial guru Frank Finance Michaels, loses all of their money in a Ponzi scheme. Her new budget conscious lifestyle includes coupon-clipping, discount deals, and, as it turns out, murder. In ETERNALLY 21, the first book in the series, Maddie pulls together a cost-conscious, yet upscale, cocktail party that includes two-for-one frozen gourmet pizza doctored up with fresh basil and red pepper, chili-lime wings with homemade ranch dressing, do-it-yourself planter centerpieces filled with crudités, and much more. To save on the liquor tab, she avoids the expense of a full bar by serving guests wine, beer, and her signature Lemonade Mojitos, made (economically) by the pitcher.

In the newly released BLACK THURSDAY, Maddie finds herself in the midst of the Thanksgiving holiday frenzy with a houseful of her estranged husband’s family and a live, on-camera, midnight shopping assignment at a big box store for the local news. During the shopping mayhem, a follower of her website (known collectively at the Frugarmy) ends up flattened beneath a pallet of toasters. Once again, Maddie, finds herself investigating a murder. When the victim turns out to be Contrary Claire, the number one online heckler at mrsfrugalicious.com, Maddie needs her very own pitcher of Lemonade Mojitos to deal with the events that follow…

Lemonade Mojitos

1/2 cup mint leaves, plus mint sprigs for garnish
5 cups club soda
1 cup sugar syrup*
4 cups vodka
4 cups lemonade

In a large bowl, mix 1/2 cup mint leaves with sugar syrup. Stir in club soda, vodka, and lemonade. Chill. Pour into ice-filled pitchers with lemon rounds and mint sprigs; serve in tall glasses.

*Sugar Syrup: Heat 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water over low heat, stir with wooden spoon until the sugar is dissolved. Stop stirring and increase heat to medium. Simmer 2 minutes. Remove from heat, let cool and refrigerate for 2 hours before using.)

You can find Linda Joffe Hull at Bouchercon, the world's largest mystery convention this November 13-16 in Long Beach, California.
