Christmas in July - Crime Scene Ornaments - Week 2

Every Thursday in July we are showing you how to make an ornament from a Crime Scene Christmas tree. Last week we made "The Suspect" ornament and this week Kerry Hammond and I got together to show you how to make a crime scene ribbon ornament.

These Crime Scene Christmas Ornaments are extremely easy to make, and they look great on a crime scene Christmas tree. You can decorate them any way you like, and the ones shown here are just examples.

Materials:

  • Black Christmas Ball Ornaments (we got these at Michaels)
  • Crime Scene Ribbon
  • Elmer’s Glue
  • Dixie Cups
  • Scissors

Step One:
Wrap your ribbon around your ball to get an idea of how long you need and cut. I gave myself a small overlap.

Step Two:
Cover the back of the ribbon with Elmer’s Glue and using your finger, smooth it out so the entire surface is covered.

Step Three:
Carefully place the glued ribbon on the ball. Start with the center and wrap each side around and hold down for a few seconds to let the glue get tacky. Set in a Dixie cup to dry.

Step Four:
Using a wet Q-tip, rub away the excess glue residue where it may have bled from underneath your ribbon.

The ribbon looks much better in person. There's a reflection in the photos.

Step Five:

This part is optional, and I only did it for a few ornaments. If you don’t want to use a metal ornament hanger, cut another piece of ribbon and thread it through the ornament. Tie in a knot to hang on the tree.
