Crafty Thursdays: Crime Scene Headbands

Crime Scene Headbands are the order of the day for this week's craft project. You can do this with any ribbon you like, but if you do it like ours I bet you'll be the only one on your block with a Crime Scene headband. This craft is super easy and will take you 15-20 minutes once you get your materials assembled.

Materials:

  • Crime Scene Ribbon - we made two different sized headbands, so we had two different sizes of ribbon. I found both on Etsy by searching "Crime Scene ribbon"
  • Plain headbands - I bought mine at Michaels in two sizes. They are black and covered in a ribbon like material. You could probably find something that would just as well at Target or Kohls.
  • Glue - I used E600, which may seem like overkill but I wanted something that wouldn't fall apart if rained upon and dries super fast. I tried Gorilla Glue but it didn't dry right and it ruined the look of the ribbon. You can buy this at Michaels or most hardware stores.
  • Scissors
  • Binder clips
  • A Tall Vase

Step One:
Center your ribbon on your headband. Because the ribbon has writing on it I made sure it was centered and I glued the center of the ribbon first, even before I cut it. Spread the glue evenly on the headband in an area that is smaller that the ribbon. Then quickly moved the ribbon around to make sure it's centered in both directions. Let this dry. I put a binder clip over the blued area and put it over the side of a tall vase.

Step Two:
After it dries, glue the rest of the ribbon to the headband. Do this slowly so you don't get glue on the headband where it might show. Put binder clips on top if you are worried about it drying fast enough.

Step Three:
After it dries trim the edges of the ribbon making sure you leave an inch to wrap around the back of the headband. The remainder to the under side of the headband. Use a binder clip to hold it while it dries.

And you're done and ready to rock your Crime Scene headband!

  2. I'm trying to picture the looks I would get wearing one of these in my small, rural community. And you know what? It's kinda funny! I may just have to do this!

  4. If I were up to facing the truth, I'd get some of that crime scene tape and make myself a belt :)

    1. Craig! I laughed out loud at that one. We're all a little guilty of that crime.
