Book Club: The Last Policeman by Ben Winters & Giveaway

Dana Cameron, S.J. Rozan, Toni P Kelner, Charlaine Harris and Ben Winters at the Edgar Week Symposium

I just finished an astonishing book by Ben H. Winters than won the Edgar Award for Best Paperback Original last week in New York and has now been nominated for an Anthony Award.

The book is called The Last Policeman and it takes place six month before the earth is about to be destroyed by an asteroid. The protagonist is a policeman named Hank Palace, who wants to continue his police work, even though the world is about to end. The books tagline is, "After all, what's the point of solving murders if we're all going to die?"

Here's the book trailer:

I can't stop thinking about this book. Despite the impending end of the world, and the numerous amounts of suicides because people can't deal, I was not depressed by the book, which is kinda crazy. It was really well written and the tone was perfect. It's a really fresh book that would be excellent for book clubs who like mystery. Trust me, there is plenty to talk about at a book club meeting.

I have one extra copy to giveaway. All you have to do is comment below before June 10th and I'll throw in an extra program from the Edgars.

This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to our winner, Pat.

  2. You don't have to enter me, because I did make an effort (with your help, I believe) to grab one of these from the Edgars. But you've sealed the deal on my reading it!

  4. Ok - I'd say Pick Me, but Pat H. has already made the best entry here so far. How can I compete with "I"ll give it to my college library"? Um, "I'll read it and selfishly keep it for my personal library!"?
