DANDY GILVER AND A BOTHERSOME NUMBER OF CORPSES

To celebrate the launch of Catriona McPherson's latest Dandy Gilver book, DANDY GILVER AND A BOTHERSOME NUMBER OF CORPSES, we are giving away the fabulous Crime Scene Do Not Cross scarf pictured above AND a copy of Catriona's new book. These two items are the must have fashion accessories for any mystery fan.

Here's the description of DANDY GILVER AND A BOTHERSOME NUMBER OF CORPSES from the publisher and Publishers Weekly:

"Agatha Christie meets Upstairs Downstairs . . . [For] fans of Phryne Fisher and Maisie Dobbs." —Publishers Weekly

A mystery writer perfect for fans of Upstairs Downstairs, Downton Abbey, and Gosford Park,  Catriona McPherson has charmed readers everywhere with her fun and clever series set in 1920s Scotland. In this new adventure, witty, aristocratic sleuth Dandy Gilver travels to an all-girls school in the small seaside town of Portpatrick to investigate the disappearance of a childhood friend who taught there. Soon, Dandy discovers that her missing chum is not the only thing that's off in Portpatrick. Other teachers have been disappearing at an alarming rate. The BBC has optioned the Dandy Gilver series for television, and mystery fans will love Dandy Gilver and a Bothersome Number of Corpses, the newest excursion with Scotland's most charming sleuth.

These books are witty, fun with a spot of murder. I can't wait until the BBC series comes out. In the meantime, if you aren't familiar with these books, you may want to start with the first one, DANDY GILVER AND THE PROPER TREATMENT OF BLOODSTAINS. You can learn more about Catriona on her Facebook page

To enter the contest, make a comment below related to Scotland or the BBC... We'll pick a winner on Thursday.

  4. Scotland has always seemed so mystical to me. It seems like a magical place, so beautiful and full of history. I don't have cable anymore, so I can't watch any of the BBC shows. I miss them a bunch!

  8. Hiya - Catriona here. I want to take a moment to praise Deb Lacey of Mystery Playground, who truly is one of the good people. The reason this post isn't an article by me or interview with me is that when it needed to be done I had a sudden death in my family and Deb swept in and took the post off my hands without missing a beat. Thank you, splendid woman! But now I'm back in the saddle and happy to answer questions about Dandy, Scotland, the BBC or anything.

  9. The Dandy Gilver series looks like great fun! My strongest memories of Scotland are of staying in bed & breakfasts (not the gourmet kind) and visiting old castles. I hope to return someday to learn more about my heritage.

  10. Re. missing the BBC - I've just coughed up $65 for one season of Dr Who to curl up with over the holidays. Ouch - but worth it.

  11. My husband and I were married in Scotland, so I love to read mysteries set there. Heck, I named my Mini Cooper Hamish Macbeth and he's got the Scottish flag on his roof.

  13. One of my favorite memories of going to Scotland was when we were touring the distillery for Glen Turret (now no longer in business, I believe) in Crieff. Someone asked for a pint in the restaurant bar afterwards and the bartender gave him a "look" because he hadn't asked for whiskey. When he received the pint, he said, "This isn't a pint! I'm from England and I know what a pint looks like!" The bartender leaned forward and said, "That is because everything is bigger in Scotland." Hee! laura.ulak@gmail.com

  16. So Dandy on the BBC is a sure thing? I am knocked out by the prospect and am busy casting Dandy, Alec, Hugh, et al. My one concern is that, like so many terrific Scottish crime shows, they'll be speaking with such deep Scottish accents that I'll miss half of the dialogue. Good luck, Catriona. We're so excited for you!
