Crafty Thursdays: Mystery Holiday Cards

It's Christmas in July as we are focusing on holiday crafts so you have plenty of time to get them done before the holidays. As far as Christmas decor goes, nothing goes up until after Thanksgiving.

Last week we made book page wrapped present ornaments. This week we turn to mystery holiday cards. Yes, I know I said we were doing five weeks of ornaments, but the Scrabble tile ornaments we tried didn't work out to our satisfaction. If you have a good Scrabble tile ornament craft idea, tell us in the comments below - of just comment about anything and you'll be entered for a chance to get four of the mystery themed holiday cards.

These are super easy and pretty fast to make. Here's what you need:

  • Blank cards & matching envelopes (most craft stores carry these)
  • Clear photo corners (craft stores or stationary stores)
  • A photo of the book cover you want to use (some options below)
  • A paper trimmer
  • A sense of humor and a friend with the same sense of humor. These holiday cards are not for everyone.

Step One:
Print the photo out of the book cover you'd like to use for your holiday book cover card (There are a few options below). It should be sized to fit your card. You can do this by changing the percentage in the print preview in your software. I usually try to get two covers to a page.

Step Two:
Use the paper trimmer to cut around the edge of the cover art.

Step Three:
Put clear photo corners on each corner (glue stick warped the pictures the first time we tried this so we moved to the photo corners. Once the corners are on, place it centered on the card. I must admit, I never get it perfectly centered as you can see in the card below.

Step Four:
Fold the card where it's scored, match it with an envelope and you're done. You can get a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays stamp to put a greeting inside, or you can just write your own.

We're giving away a pack of four cards. All you have to do to be entered is comment below.

  5. Awesome! I'm going to the Antiquarian Book show here in St. Petersburg FL in March and will be on the lookout for more vintage Christmas covers.

  6. P.S. If you use spray glue the paper won't wrinkle at all.
