Loving ABC's Forever

My favorite freshmen show so far is ABC's Forever, starring Ioan Gruffudd as Dr. Henry Morgan, Alana De La Garza as Detective Jo Martinez and Judd Hirsch as Abe. Gruffudd's character Henry is a medical examiner in New York who is much like Conan Doyle's original Sherlock Holmes in that he is smarter than everyone and uses the smallest detail to solve crimes.

He differs from that Sherlock in that he is hundreds of years old, immortal and he doesn't know why he can't die. It's an interesting twist, and one that I was skeptical about at first, but it makes the show fresh and interesting.

Hirsch plays his adopted son, Abe, who is now physically older than Henry but younger in actual years. They relationship and devotion to one another lightens the show and makes it a joy to watch.

There is great chemistry between Henry and Detective Jo Martinez, who seems to call him in on cases before she calls her actual police partner. There is plenty of potential in this relationship.

As if that wasn't enough, it turns out that Henry isn't the only immortal around. There's someone older than Henry who's so bored he's decided to become Henry's stalker. He shows up at the worst times, doing the worst possible thing.

If you haven't caught Forever, you'll want to start at the beginning. It's worth not missing one episode.

  1. How have I missed this one? I'm glad you told me that the immortal thing actually works, I would be hesitant too.
