Q&A with Susan Furlong

Tomorrow night we're helping author Susan Furlong launch her new book, Peaches and Scream, on a virtual launch party on Facebook with Agatha Award-winning author, Terrie Farley Moran from 4:30 to 7:00 pm. You can find all the details to join in the fun here. There will be prizes, recipes, and fun. In the meantime, Susan took time away from her busy launch schedule to answer a few questions for us.
What is the best thing that has happened to you as a result of your novels?

Hands down, the best thing is getting out and meeting readers. Cozy mystery readers are the most amazing ever! I always walk away from an event or signing feeling like I’ve made several new friends.

What was the last mystery novel you read, other than your own, that you LOVED? Why did you love it?

I just finished one of Emily Brightwell’s Mrs. Jeffries novels. I love the premise behind this series: an older woman who works behind the scenes to help solve local crimes. The characters are so well written, especially Mrs. Jeffries. She’s so spunky!

If your protagonist were actually a real person, would you be friends with them? Why or why not?

Absolutely! She’s just the type of gal I’d like to hang with: hardworking, caring, family-centered and very, very strong willed.
How long did it take you to get your first draft done of this book? How much time do you spend in revisions?

I usually write the first draft in two months. Then I spend another two months editing and polishing. I try to write one novel every four months.

What did you do to research the book?

I traveled down to Peach County, Georgia, and talked to local peach farmers, met small business owners, and hung out for a while just absorbing all the area had to offer. It’s such a wonderful place and I really enjoyed my time there.

  1. Peaches are one of my very favorite fruit but we don't get really good ones here. I love to make fresh peach ice cream every summer at least once and so I guess I will have to order some peaches from Georgia for that this year. It is not easy getting four pounds of peaches to all be the same ripeness for the ice cream believe me. :) Looking forward to your book very much.
