Don Bruns with the Jamaica Drink for Jamaica Blue

Today on Mystery Playground, Don Bruns, author of the Mick Sever mysteries series, joins us with a tasty drink and a teaser of the first book in the series, both called: Jamaica Blue.

A little bit about the book:

Jamaica Blue is the first book in a five book Caribbean mystery series featuring Mick Severs, a charming and sexy freelance rock journalist. Mick packs his bags and heads for Jamaica to write a story about a new reggae band with a rap edge. The band is becoming well known for its politically charged lyrics and talented front man Derrick Lyman. Derrick’s rise to stardom is put in jeopardy when a young girl is murdered at a party. The bands security guard Roland Johnson is arrested for the murder after the police catch him at the scene of the crime with the murder weapon in his hand. The police think that have their man, but Mick disagrees.

Jamaica Blue captures the heat, passion and danger of the tropical island. A Rastafarian rock and roll band may have blood on its hands and an entertainment journalist who follows the group finds himself a target of someone who is desperate to keep that band's past buried.

I asked a bartender in Jamaica to come up with a drink that captures the feel of the island. One sip and I agreed...this is a Jamaican drink.

And the drink:

Ingredients:
1 ounce plus 2 teaspoons white rum
4 teaspoons pineapple juice
2 teaspoons blue Curacao liqueur
1 teaspoon sweetened coconut cream

Directions:
Mix ingredients together in a cocktail shaker. Serve in a double-rocks or martini glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry, a spear of fresh pineapple, or a lime wedge. Listen to some reggae music and enjoy.
