Killer Cocktail & The Oscar

Tracy Kiely, author of Killer Cocktails, is joining us today for Drinks with Reads.

Scotch, soda, and a little dash of Hammett

Killer Cocktail is the second book in the Nic and Nigel Martin series; a modern-day twist on Dashiell Hammett’s The Thin Man. When Nic and Nigel Martini discover behind-the-scenes footage from A Winter's Night, the acclaimed film known for backstage love triangles and the tragic death of its original star, Melanie Summers, all of Hollywood takes notice. However, someone does more than notice. After their house is ransacked, several of the tapes are stolen, and their assistant is left for dead, Nic and Nigel must uncover a twenty-year-old mystery before another killer cocktail is served. Lights, Camera, ACTION; it’s murder, mirth and the perfect martini.

When your last name is Martini, it’s a safe bet you’ve tried the beverage. When you’re Nic and Nigel Martini, you’ve perfected it. After their assistant is beaten within an inch of her life with an Oscar statuette, the pair must hunt down her assailant. But doesn’t mean the duo must skip their nightly cocktail  – especially when there’s a martini tailor made for the case; The Oscar. Cheers.

The Oscar
Ingredients:
75 ml (2 ½ oz.)  Plymouth gin
Juice from ½ pink grapefruit
25 ml (¾ oz.) of elderflower syrup (they have this at Ikea)

1 rosemary sprig

First, you juice your 1/2 pink grapefruit. I like to do this using a fork into a bowl. It's easier to separate out the seeds that way.

Then mix the ingredients in a shaker over ice, pour into a glass, and add the rosemary sprig.
