Bacchus, Flynn & Provenza

Large amounts of G.W. Bailey doubloons headed my way, he's reaching into the doubloon box.

G.W. Bailey, who plays Detective Lieutenant Louie Provenza, was the king of the Bacchus Mardi Gras parade tonight in New Orleans.

I love the show he's on now, Major Crimes, so I have to admit when I saw him I yelled "Provenza." (G.W. would have gotten lost in the noise). He heard and then proceeded to throw two giant handfuls of special "king doubloons" right at me. (you can tell in the photo above he's scooping large quantities of doubloons out of the box.)

As soon as I recovered from the doubloon shower, I look up at the next float and there is Tony Denison who plays Detective Andy Flynn.

Bailey's ride was well publicized but I hadn't seen anything about Denison appearing. Of course, I yelled "Flynn." He smiled and threw me some beads.

I thought it was great since the characters they play on The Closer & Major Crimes are such good friends on the show. My absolute favorite episode of The Closer is the one where these two find a dead body in Provenza's garage but don't call it in immediately because they have Dodger skybox seats. You got to have priorities.

Bailey and Denison were riding to support the Sunshine Kids charity which is dedicated to helping children with cancer. Some of the children who are helped by the charity were also on the float.

All in all, I'd say that both G.W. Bailey and Tony Denison know how to do Mardi Gras right.

That's G.W. Bailey on the right - two headed Bacchus doubloon

  1. Since you got me hooked on The Closer I love those 2. I am flying through the seasons I have downloaded on my iPad and am on Season 5 now. I will be sorry to see it end. How exciting that you got to see them! I'm jealous.

  2. @Kim - when you are done with The Closer, you can start watching the first season of Major Crimes. It's most of the cast of The Closer with Mary MacDonald (Raydor) replacing Brenda Leigh. It's also on TNT.
