The kids are back in school but we still have some official summer left, so I thought I'd conclude our summer reads with drinks series today with Elizabeth George's Deception on His Mind and Mint Ginger Iced Tea.
I have read and loved all of the Elizabeth George books and particularly like the characters of Barbara Havers and Thomas Lynley.
I selected Deception on His Mind of all of her books because it introduces the characters of Taymullah and Haddiyah Azhar. They are big characters in Ms. George's new book, Just One Evil Act, which comes out on October 1st, 2013 so it's a good time to revisit.
If you like murder, intrigue, turmoil, moxie and loyalty in your fiction, then you will love this book.
Deception on His Mind follows Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers as she gets herself assigned to a murder case without her longtime partner, Inspector Thomas Lynley, in a British seaside town. Her reason for doing so is the involvement of her neighbor in London, Taymullah Azhar, and racial tensions that are complicating the investigation. To top it all off, Barbara's not exactly sure what to do with her new boss. Deception on His Mind has the character of Barbara Havers at her absolutely most interesting and is my favorite of Ms. George's books.
Here's a recipe for Mint Ginger Iced Tea to drink while you read. I opted for a pitcher of the iced tea, instead of a glass, because this is not a short book.
Mint Ginger Iced Tea
- Four tea bags of your favorite tea
- One half cup ginger, peeled and roughly chopped
- Four handfuls of fresh mint leaves
- Three lemon slices
- Three quarts of water
1) Boil the water
2) Once it has boiled, remove from the heat and add the tea bags, ginger, mint and lemon
3) Let steep until cool
4) Pour it in the pitcher and refrigerate
We'll have more on Elizabeth George's next book, Just One Evil Act, in the coming weeks.
