Happy 50th, It's A Small World

Nobody does anniversaries and birthdays like Disney and the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the iconic It's A Small World ride is no exception. Whether you love the theme song or not, once you've heard it, it's with you for life. And today Disney is holding a Small World sing along at all of their parks world wide.

Disney has set up an entire website devoted to this anniversary, where among other things you can make your own virtual Small World Doll. Disney donates $1 to UNICEF for every doll made up to $100,000 (They are also giving another $150,000 donation separate from the doll making). They are less than half of the way towards that goal, but you can help by quickly making your own doll. Here's mine:

I modeled her after the Cleopatra doll that I loved so much as a kid. I used to look for her the entire ride.

Here's a great video where Richard Sherman (half of the Sherman brothers), one of the composers of the song, talks about that wonderful song and how it came about.

Happy Birthday It's A Small World. Here's to another 50 years of a world of laughter.

We'll be back next week with Crafty Thursdays...

  2. My daughter went on this for the first time in February and she's still singing the song. It made quite an impression on my 4 year old.
