Kerry Hammond tells us all about these wonderful mystery themed nutcrackers.
As Christmas approaches, and gifts need to be purchased,
some of us are wondering what to get the mystery lovers on our list. Reverting
to the old standby gifts of books or gift cards to bookstores is still
acceptable, but if you’re feeling the need to step outside the box….keep
reading.
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are icons of the mystery
genre. Nutcrackers are a tradition at Christmas time. What do you get when you
put the two together? Two wonderful gift ideas for that special mystery lover
that you want to impress.
I received my Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson nutcrackers as
Christmas gifts from my wonderful husband. They are both made by Steinbach, and
can be purchased online at on Simply Steinbach website. The Steinbach family
started making nutcrackers in the 1800s and family members are still, to this
day, running the company.
The Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson nutcrackers are extremely
detailed and well made. The quality of the workmanship and materials used can
be seen in the details, including their tiny little bags (Sherlock’s is made of
real leather). Mystery lovers often collect signed books, so the bonus to the
nutcrackers is that you can even buy them signed. My Sherlock is only numbered,
but my Watson is signed by Karla Steinbach, who currently runs the company.
The best part is that I keep them up all year round in my
library, right on top of a bookshelf full of mystery novels.
