The Catch: A New TV Crime Drama

Kerry Hammond is here to tell us about one of her new favorite TV shows.

Ever since I found out that Bones and Rizzoli & Isles were in their final seasons, I’ve been wondering what show will replace them in my evening lineup. I need my weekly fix of crime, where the criminals are caught and justice prevails. I was a bit worried that I would have nothing to replace these two great shows when I saw an advertisement for The Catch.

I can honestly say, The Catch is officially my new favorite show. It’s got it all: deception, crime, drama, suspense, stolen paintings, and rich Arab Princesses. The premise of the show revolves around a private investigation firm owned by two successful women. In the Pilot, one of the partners, Alice Vaughen, played by Mireille Enos of The Killing, gets engaged to her boyfriend, Christopher Hall. When he asks Alice to run away with him, get married at City Hall and then disappear, she turns him down. She thinks he’s being dramatic and laughs it off, telling him that as soon as she finishes the job she’s working on she’s all his. You can see the disappointment on his face.

Her partner and co-workers convince her she’s crazy not to run away and elope with the man of her dreams, so she leaves him a message and returns home to pack. What she arrives, she finds that every trace of him is gone from her apartment. When she goes to his office, it’s empty and gutted. Oh yeah, and prior to his disappearance, Alice gave him $1.4 million for an apartment they were going to buy together. The final straw is when she finds out he’s compromised her client files and stolen all of the information from her firm. She vows to find him, figure out who he is, and stop him. She makes it her mission. What follows is a wonderful game of cat and mouse, one that is even more intriguing for the fact that Christopher is clearly in love with Alice.

The cinematography is exciting, the characters are perfectly cast, and the weekly cases they solve are fascinating. Watching the “bad guys” pull off their cons is as much fun as watching the “good guys” try to catch them. The show airs Thursdays at 10pm EST on ABC. Fun fact, Mireille Enos is married to Alan Ruck (Cameron from Ferris Bueller's Day Off) and Alan plays her business partner's soon-to-be ex-husband on The Catch.

Have you watched The Catch? If so, what do you think?

  1. I couldn't agree more Kerry. I also love The Catch because I really enjoy Mireille Enos. The plot is so good as everyone is trying to get the jump if you will on everyone else.
