I love it when there is a story behind a winery. With Napa-based 19 Crimes, there is a doozy. Starting in 1793, being convicted of any one of the 19 crimes could get you transported from England to the rough and tumble colonies of Australia. The crimes included impersonating an Egyptian, stealing fish or money, stealing a shroud from a grave and secret marriage. One of the people transported was the poet, John O'Reilly and they use a real photo of him and other men banished to Australia for these crimes on their bottles. Check out the little vignette below.

I love this wine. We served it at our MWA SoCal Homemade Gumbo and Home-brewed Ale party last weekend for those who don't drink ale. The perfect label for the crime crowd.
