Murder on the Orient Express Tea Sandwiches

We're excited about the new Murder on the Orient Express movie coming out in November, and we're having a party. We'll be showing you different pieces of the party until the movie comes out November 10th. Today we're going to show you how to make train and Poirot inspired tea sandwiches.

First, you need the right tools. We used a mustache sandwich cutter. We used the "Crustache Cookie Cutter" by the Fred Company.

And a train cookie cutter...

We made two sandwiches. The First is Salmon & Herbed Cream Cheese. The passengers on Christie's train are treated to a delicate cream cheese so we selected a sandwich that included it.

Salmon & Herbed Cream Cheese Mustache Sandwiches

recipe from The Afternoon Tea Collection Cookbook

  • 2 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 teaspoons each finely chopped fresh dill and chives
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon drained baby capers, rinsed, chopped finely
  • sliced white bread
  • 4 ounces thinly sliced smoked salmon

1. Combine cream cheese, dill, chives, lemon juice and capers in small bowl.
2. Spread a thin layer of cream cheese on 1 piece of bread, top with a thin piece of salmon and then another piece of bread.
3.  Use the Fred Crustache sandwich cutter to cut your mustaches. It works better if you press the cutter hard into the sandwich once it's made.
4.  Carefully remove the cutter.

Makes approximately 14 mustaches

Our second sandwich is made in the shape of a train and it is simple to make.

Ham, Gouda and Maile Mustard on Rye Bread

  • Maile Mustard
  • Sliced Gouda
  • Sliced Black Forrest Ham

1) Cover one side of the bread with the mustard
2) add a slice of gouda (it will work better than the hunk of cheese we used this time)
3) Add a slice of ham
4) Push the train cookie cutter into the sandwich
5) Fill your sandwich platter
